Dr. Irina Borodina is Senior Scientist and Group Leader at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability, Technical University of Denmark (DTU). Her research focuses on advancing the methodologies for metabolic engineering of cell factories for sustainable production of bulk and high-value chemicals.  Dr. Borodina received Chemical Engineering degree from Kaunas University of Technology in Lithuania in 2001 and her PhD degree in Biotechnology from DTU with Prof. Jens Nielsen as advisor.

After her PhD study, she was awarded a prestigious Post Doctoral grant from the Danish Research Council and worked on recombinant production of allergy vaccines in collaboration with the Danish State Hospital. She joined the Center for Biosustainability in 2011 as project manager and started her research group on Yeast Metabolic Engineering in 2013. Dr. Borodina has authored and co-authored 27 peer-reviewed articles, which have been cited over 870 times, and she is co-inventor of 8 patent applications.
