We want to present you the sixth speaker of “The COINS 2018” conference – Ramunas Martin Vabulas – who is a Group Leader at the Buchmann Institute for Molecular Life Sciences, Goethe University Frankfurt.
Ramunas (Martin) Vabulas is a Group Leader at the Buchmann Institute for Molecular Life Sciences, Goethe University Frankfurt. He studied medicine at the Vilnius University. After graduating, he received a fellowship from the Boehringer Inngelheim Stiftung for doctoral studies at the Technical University Munich where he specialized in molecular and cellular immunology. During his postdoctoral work and as a project leader at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry in Martinsried, he gradually moved to the studies of the cellular protein quality control. Since 2011, he has established and leads a research group at the Goethe University Frankfurt with the aim to elucidate molecular mechanisms which prevent protein misfolding and aggregation in mammalian cells. His laboratory is especially interested in possibilities to destabilize metastatic cell proteomes for therapeutic purposes.
Among his achievements are the Junior Research Award from the Max Planck Society in 2006 and the prestigious European Research Council grant in 2012.
